Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia May 2026

23rd June 2026

This was my first visit to Lower Zambezi National Park. I had heard many good things about Lower Zambezi, particularly during the Emerald Season, and I was not disappointed. Lower Zambezi is a magical place. The varied landscapes of Winter-thorn forest, open plains, riverine habitat and the mighty Zambezi were all fabulous in their own right, but it is the early morning and late afternoon light that makes this a special place and the perfect backdrop to see and photograph the abundant wildlife. The organisation and execution of the trip by https://www.edwardselfephotosafaris.com was exemplary and enabled me to take advantage of the light and the many and varied opportunities that came along. Leopard, lion, wild dog, elephant all featured extensively, but so did some of the less high profile mammals and birds, all of which were transformed by the light and setting. These are just a few of the many images I took on this memorable trip.
