Autumn in Torres del Paine National Park
29th April 2016

Torres del Paine National Park is a natural wonder at any time of year, so to have the opportunity to visit the park in April to capture the rich colours of autumn was an opportunity not to miss. I was also fortunate to have travelled with a Chilean photographer who knows the park well and shared with me some of its many scenic locations.

An added bonus of visiting the park in April is that it is outside the main holiday period and hence a lot quieter; which also makes the wildlife easier to photograph.

Carnaval Andino Con La Fuerza Del Sol
27th January 2016

Every January, Arica plays host to the biggest carnival in Chile and one of the largest in South America. It attracts some 10,000 dancers and musicians from the Andean regions of Chile, Peru and Bolivia; as well as thousands of "groupies" and spectators, most are also from the Andean regions. This year the carnival included 62 different dance groups; each accompanied by their own band. Most of the dances are traditional dances of the region that either have their roots going back many centuries or which depict events from the history of the area.

The carnival is spread over 3 days and on each day all of the groups parade through the city streets, finishing on the edge of Plaza Vicuña Mackenna at the base of Al Morro. On the Friday and Saturday the parade starts at 14:00 and finishes at around 04:00. On Sunday the parade starts at 12:00 (noon) and finishes a bit earlier; to allow the city to return to normal.

Urban Art of Valparaiso
03rd January 2016
Valparaiso is rightly famous for its scenic location on the Pacific Coast of Chile and for its long and colourful history as a seafaring port. It is also home to a living tapestry of fascinating murals decorating the narrow streets and passageways. This gallery contains some of the many murals to be found in Valparaiso.

Falkland Islands
07th November 2015
I have recently returned from a visit to the Falkland Islands to photograph the amazing wildlife. My trip included time on Bleaker and Sealion Islands and a stay with the Warden of the largest King Penguin colony on the Falkland Islands, at Volunteer point. More of my photographs from this trip can be found in the Falkland Islands gallery.
